Russia’s healthcare ministry and authorities of the Sakhalin region will be working on organisation of resort areas around springs on the islands, Russia’s Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova told TASS commenting on development of balneology resorts in the region.
"Sakhalin, which has specific natural resources, is very important in development of resorts and recreational zones," she said on Sunday.
Regional authorities plan to present the first project during the international economic forum in Vladivostok. The presentation will be devoted to the Green Lake resort complex on Kurils’ Iturup Island.
"Our plans are to restore all the resorts, which used to be working and well-known in the Soviet times," Acting Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said.
The Green Lake project will include a hotel for 132 guests and all the necessary infrastructures. The cost is 2.4 billion roubles (prices of 2014).
The Sakhalin region is unique: in a small territory there are practically all known types of thermal and mineral waters. There are eight types of mineral waters worldwide, and six of them are in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Research results show the thermal and mineral waters there may be used effectively. The close location of the springs makes it possible to have only one complex, which will offer the entire set of treatment forms to be used for patients with different disorders.
