The Admiral Nevelskoi large landing ship of the Russian Pacific Fleet has taken the first voyage from Vanino port in the Khabarovsk territory to Kholmsk port on the Sakhalin Island, spokesman for the Eastern Military District Colonel Alexander Gordeyev reported on Thursday. The trip will take about 15 hours, the ship carries 190 people.
"The warship is planned to make three trips on the Vanino-Kholmsk route. Several hours earlier, the Admiral Nevelskoi large landing ship completed a voyage from Vladivostok to the Khabarovsk territory and moored in the Postovaya Bay near the Zavety Ilyicha settlement. The ship’s crew embarked 190 citizens who were waiting for the Venino-Kholmsk ferry," he said.
Gordeyev said that citizens have been facing problems in Vanino with transportation to Sakhalin. The local ferry service is overloaded due to a powerful cyclone that disrupted transportation between the mainland and the island for several days.
"In this connection the Eastern Military District Command decided to provide a large landing ship of the Pacific Fleet for civilians’ transportation to Sakhalin," Gordeyev said.
