Pippa Middleton, sister of the duchess of Cambridge, celebrated Fat Tuesday, known to some as Pancake Day, by sampling some of London's top pancakes. Middleton, writing for the Daily Telegraph, said she prepared for Fat Tuesday, the last day for Christians to enjoy fatty foods before the six weeks of Lent, by experiencing some of London's most decadent pancakes. The sister of Prince William's wife said she visited The Botonist restaurant and was exposed by executive chef James Lyon-Shaw to a Beef Wellington pancake featuring a fillet of seared beef, shavings of black truffle, seared foie gras and a rich Madeira jus with a side of buttered spinach. "It is heaven, or a heart attack, on a plate," Middleton wrote of the $46.66 pancake. Middleton said her next stop was the South Bank's Real Food Market, where Arnold Rose took her inside his food van, dubbed "The French Revolution," to sample crepes including a galette -- a buckwheat flour pancake -- cooked gluten-free, but topped with a full English breakfast of a fried egg, cheese, tomato, ham and mushroom. Middleton said the My Old Dutch restaurant offers a wide variety of pancake selections, including curry pancakes, chilli con carne pancakes and the signature My Old Dutch, a double-size pancake containing chicken, smoked bacon, peppers, mushrooms, sweet corn and mozzarella.
