Iceland saw a 25 percent increase in overnight stays by foreign tourists in hotels in 2014, compared with the previous year, according to an annual report released by Statistics Iceland Monday.
According to the report, the total number of people paying for accommodation in Icelandic hotels was 5.5 million in 2014, a 21 percent increase compared with the year 2013.
Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 80 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in 2014, up 25 percent compared with the figure of previous year. The number of Icelanders who stayed overnight in hotels also increased by 6 percent.
Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in 2014 were mostly residents from Britain, Germany and the United States.
