Pilots for German airline Lufthansa announced their imminent intent to strike, at the peak of the European summer holidays, after declaring contract talks at an impasse, according to dpa.
The most recent work stoppage in April cause 90 per cent of Lufthansa flights to be cancelled, and the airline said its losses were in the tens of millions of dollars.
Current talks with the company over pension issues have failed, the pilots' union said. A union spokesman said stoppages could begin immediately, but promised to give enough notice to avoid leaving passengers stranded at airports.
