After online booking site Cheapair.com and Sir Richard Branson’s commercial space carrier Virgin Galactic, major travel site Expedia has also announced plans to accept bitcoins as a form of payment for hotel reservations.
The online travel site announced that it’s partnered with Coinbase, a third-party bitcoin payment processor, to integrate the service into its hotel bookings site.
That means that along with payment methods like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal, travelers will find also find a bitcoin option.
Last November, low-budget reservation site CheapAir.com snagged bragging rights to becoming the world’s first online travel agency to accept bitcoins for flight purchases.
Described as the world’s first peer-to-peer open-source digital currency that takes banks out of the equation, bitcoins are accepted by vendors like WordPress, Reddit, and Baidu.
Not long after Cheapflights' announcement, flashy entrepreneur Branson said his commercial space travel carrier Virgin Galactic will likewise accept bitcoins as payment.
