An Air Canada plane made an emergency landing in Toronto when one of its two engines shut down just after takeoff on a flight to Tokyo, the airline said. Air Canada Flight AC001 had just taken off from Pearson International Airport with 318 passengers and a crew of 16 aboard, when the engine failed, the Globe and Mail of Toronto reported. Airline spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said no one on the plane was injured, and the passengers will be able to fly out of Toronto Tuesday on another plane. The Air Canada Boeing 777 departed Toronto at 2:26 p.m. and the crew carried out the emergency landing at 3:53 p.m. Fitzpatrick said it was not clear what caused the engine to shut down. Debris that may have come from the plane caused some property damage when it landed on vehicles not far from the airport, police said. No injuries were reported from falling debris.
