An overloaded trailer rammed into a pedestrian bridge along Cairo/Alexandria agricultural road on Sunday, causing a crack in the steel structure of the bridge.
Refaat Hatata, the adviser to the transport minister, said the collision also caused the bridge to largely incline, forcing the closure of the agriculture road in both directions.
Emergency teams from the Roads Authority were called in and a state of emergency was announced at the ministry's crisis management room, he added.
This is the second incident of its kind to be reported today after a speedy truck caused a partial collapse in a pedestrian bridge on the agricultural road in Qalyoub earlier in the day.
