The Dreamliner Boeing 787 has arrived in Beijing, kicking off the new jet’s six-month global tour. The plane is drawing attention for its green performance, and the increasing role of Chinese suppliers in the airplane manufacturing process. Marc Allen, President of Boeing China, said, \"There’s no more fitting place to come than Beijing.\" Visiting the world’s fastest growing market was a no-brainer for a manufacturer looking to promote a new line of jets. The Boeing 787 is set to officially begin operation in China in mid 2012. Airlines across the world have already ordered as many as 800 of the 787s, including dozens for four Chinese airlines alone. Made from light weight composite materials, the 787 is both economical and fuel efficient, and offers airlines the potential to open up new, non-stop flight routes. Innovative technologies have facilitated a 20 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared with other similarly sized airplanes on the market. He said, \"She can fly with a 20 percent less fule ... desgined to optimize flight inside the commercial airplane envelope.\" CTV reporter Lu Lu said, 787 claims to be the first mid-size airplane that can fly long-distance range. This is thanks to innovative technologies that allow the plane operate economic. Components made by Chinese suppliers, such as the rudder, have made their contribution to this energy efficient flight. The rudder, wing-to-body and vertical fin leading edge are all supplied by Chinese manufacturers, this is also the first time Chinese manufacturers have been exclusive Boeing suppliers. Zhang Hui, Vice President of AVIC International, said, \"As a Chinese manufacturer, our participation in the building this new airplane is beneficial to both sides. It means a lot to us. Currently we supply the 787 with three components, we hope to expand our part in the future. This is helpful to upgrade our technologies and skills, and enhance management.\" Allen said, \"The story is about growing our capabilities. China has been very focused over the last few decades on developing manufacturing, engineering design and research capabilities at an increasingly rapid rate. That’s what’s fuelling the opportunities all companies are finding here in the Chinese marketplace.\" Maybe it\'s too early to call the Boeing 787 a game-changing jet, but flying farther, flying on less fuel, and flying more comfortably is a common goal for all plane designers. And this could end up being remembered as the point where these dreams really took off.
