Author Dawn Hamilton has dedicated much of her life to touching the lives of as many people as possible. She now reaches out to readers with her new poetry collection, “Standing on Top of the Mountain” (published by AuthorHouse), in which she discusses many experiences, both good and bad, from her life and those around her.
As a teenager, Hamilton says she found it difficult to express her thoughts. While attending an all-ages school in Jamaica, she began using a journal to express herself. Now, Hamilton hopes to give a voice to the many girls and women who have experienced abuse, homelessness, rape, joblessness or being knocked down throughout life. She hopes her poetry will help readers realize they never have to stay in an undesirable situation.
An excerpt from the poem “Mix Up” featured in “Standing on Top of the Mountain”:
“We need to stop talking where there is too much gossiping,
For we certainly will have some betraying and condemning
It is not healthy living
We do not always know others circumstances
That is why we have to keep on praying”
