Renowned R&B singer and pianist John Legend is set to perform for the first time in the Kingdom, marking the start of the Spring of Culture 2015 activities.
Legend will be preforming along with his band, consisting of four guitarists on Monday, March 2.
The famed singer has won nine Grammy awards for his work. He was also referred to as a ‘genius’ by international musician and record producer Quincy Jones. His contributions to music earned him the honourable "Starlight Award" in 2007 from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, part of the American National Academy of Popular Music.
Legend's most famous songs are:"All of Me" "Ordinary People" "Save Room" and "Everybody Knows". With four albums to his name, his music is featured in a number of popular movies, including ‘Think Like a Man’ and ‘Django Unchained’.
Legend is also well known for his philanthropy, where he has been active through multiple social causes. He was appointed to the Forum of Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum, 2012. In 2013, Legend performed at Gucci's global concert event in London where the campaign "Chime for Change" aimed to raise awareness of women's issues in education, health and justice. Legend has also launched his own educational organisation, the Show Me Campaign, in 2007 whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty.
The Spring of Culture is one of the largest events in Bahrain, featuring performances by renowned international artists. The 10th Spring of Culture will be held between March and April 2015, and will host a number of worldwide artists as well as young Bahraini talents. The festival is expected to attract audiences from across the region and will contribute to the tourism sector in the Kingdom.
The Spring of Culture Festival is organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities in collaboration with the Economic Development Board (EDB), Shaikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research, Al Bareh Art Gallery, Al Riwaq Art Space, and La Fontaine Centre.
