Mark Wahlberg will star in The Six Billion Dollar Man.
The film is based on 1970s television series The Six Million Dollar Man, and will see the 43-year-old actor reunite with Lone Survivor director Peter Berg. Berg, Bob Weinstein, Sarah Aubrey and Stephen Levinson will produce.
The Six Million Dollar Man was based on the 1972 novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, and premiered on ABC in 1973. The series starred Lee Majors as Steve Austin, a former astronaut outfitted with bionic implants after he is injured in a crash. The enhancements give the character increased strength, speed and vision, and he is recruited as a secret agent by the Office of Scientific Intelligence.
The Six Billion Dollar Man is slated for release in 2016. Wahlberg last appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction, and is scheduled for a number of upcoming projects, including Mojave by The Departed writer William Monahan, and The Gambler with Jessica Lange, Brie Larson and John Goodman.
Berg has directed such films as Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom and Hancock, and is also known for portraying Dr. Billy Kronk on CBS medical drama Chicago Hope.
