Marion Cotillard has joined the cast of Assassin's Creed.
The 39-year-old actress will star with Michael Fassbender in a live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game. The 37-year-old actor is slated to play protagonist Desmond Miles, but details on Cotillard's character are being kept under wraps.
Justin Kurzel will helm the film, and recently directed Cotillard and Fassbender in an upcoming adaptation of the William Shakespeare play Macbeth. The Assassin's Creed movie began production this week, and opens in theaters Dec. 12, 2016.
Assassin's Creed was released in 2007, and inspired eight sequel games and several spinoffs. The story centers on the rivalry between the Assassins and the Knights Templar, and follows Desmond as he experiences his ancestral memories via the Animus.
Cotillard is nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of factory worker Sandra Bya in Two Days, One Night, and scheduled to voice The Rose in The Little Prince. Fassbender last appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and will star in a Steve Jobs biopic by Danny Boyle.
