Dawn Richard will release new solo album Blackheart in 2015.
The 31-year-old singer announced the record in an interview with Billboard published Wednesday. Richard is best known as a member of Danity Kane, but told the magazine she is ready to move on from the now-defunct girl group.
Richard released her first solo album, Goldenheart, in January 2013. She temporarily put her solo career on hold as she, Aubrey O'Day and Shannon Bex attempted to reform Danity Kane, but returned after a highly publicized fight led to the group's second breakup.
"It's a completely different sound," she said of Blackheart. "Lyrically and storytelling-wise, it is in the same fashion as Goldenheart ... But I wanted each album to stand on its own and have a cohesive story. The story in itself is about my journey throughout the music industry, the love, the hate, the redemption and the whole thing in between."
"I did my part in releasing the [last Danity Kane] album, so now all I can do is support whatever's out there and wish everyone the best, and now continue to make great music that doesn't affect my group," she related. "So I have to move forward."
Blackheart is scheduled for release Jan. 15, 2015. Goldenheart and Blackheart are the first two installments in a planned trilogy of albums.
