Veteran comic actor Jim Carrey will star in "True Crimes", a murder drama set to begin production on location in Poland later this week, an industry insider said Monday.
"Carrey will be filming the US-Polish co-production in Krakow," Tomasz Dabrowski, head of Film Commission Poland, told AFP, referring to the picturesque southern city.
Oscar-winning Polish production house Opus Film will coproduce the drama directed by Alexandros Avranas, Opus Film representative Ewa Puszczynska said via email Monday.
Opus Film produced Ida, a post-Holocaust drama set in Poland and directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, which took home this year's best foreign film Academy Award.
Puszczynska also confirmed the shoot in Poland would last 33 days.
Penned by British screenwriter Jeremy Brock, the script was inspired by "True Crime", a 2008 article in The New Yorker by David Grann.
Canadian-born comedian Carrey, 53, became one of Hollywood's best-paid actors after starring in box office hits like "Dumb and Dumber", "Ace Ventura", "The Mask" and "Man on the Moon", among others.
From Hollywood to Bollywood, Poland has developed a reputation for providing filmmakers with world-class production facilities and crews at a fraction of prices charged in Western Europe.
Roman Polanski and Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg respectively filmed Oscar-winners "The Pianist" and "Schindler's List" on location in Poland.
India's Bollywood has also discovered it: several hit movies including the top-grossing "Kick" were shot here.
