black-ish swept the NAACP Image Awards in the television comedy categories at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium Friday evening.
The freshman family program was named Outstanding TV Comedy Series, while its stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne and Yara Shahidi won the prizes for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
It was a big night for Anderson, who also hosted the ceremony, which organizers said "celebrates the accomplishment of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors."
Selma won the title of Outstanding Feature Film, and its stars David Oyelowo, Common and Carmen Ejogo the awards for Best Actor, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress in a Film.
Taraji P. Henson picked up the prize for Best Supporting Actress in a Film for No Good Deed and Antoine Fuqua won the Best Director award for helming the movie The Equalizer.
How to Get Away with Murder earned the Outstanding TV Drama Series accolade and its leading lady Viola Davis won for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Criminal Minds cast member Shemar Moore scored the prize for Best Actor in a TV Drama Series, while Scandal co-stars Joe Morton and Khandi Alexander took home the trophies for Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series.
The Trip to Bountiful was declared Outstanding TV Movie, Miniseries or Dramatic Special. Its leads Blair Underwood and Cicely Tyson won the statuettes for Best Actor and Actress in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Dramatic Special.
Common, Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman, Laurence Fishburne, Sharon Leal, David Oyelowo, Gina Rodriguez, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Larenz Tate, Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey were among the event's presenters.
Clive Davis, Spike Lee and Attorney General of the United States Eric H. Holder, Jr. were given career-achievement awards.
