Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif will visit Kabul on Sunday, local media reported on Friday.
A spokesman for the Pakistani military media wing Asim Bajwa said during his day-long visit the army chief will hold meetings with senior political and military leadership of Afghanistan, Khaama Press said.
No further details have been given regarding the agenda of Gen. Sharif’s visit to Kabul, however it is expected talks will be held on the Afghan peace process with the Taliban group.
This comes as the Afghan and Pakistani leadership discussed the stalled Afghan peace talks during the Heart of Asia conference in the capital city of Pakistan earlier this month.
Pakistan facilitated the first round of direct peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban group in Islamabad this year but the second round of the talks scheduled in July failed with the disclosure of the death of Taliban founder and supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.
