Cairo Criminal Court adjourned to Thursday the trial of ousted President Mohamad Morsi and 10 co-defendants of the leading Muslim Brotherhood members over spying charges and leaking classified documents on the Egyptian national security and the Armed Forces to Qatar.
The decision was made by the court to hear the testimony of a senior officer of the Republican Guard forces.
During today hearing, the court listened to the testimony of secretary-general of the Defense Ministry Mohamed Farid Hegazy and Security Chief at the Presidential Palace Ossama el Gendy.
The accusations include leaking important national security documents to Qatari intelligence through the Qatar-based Al Jazeera news channel.
The documents include information about the Armed Forces’ deployment places and the State’s foreign and interior policies.
Investigations revealed that seven of the defendants, who have been working for Al Jazeera, Rasd news network and Egypt 25 TV, are involved in the case and provided a Qatari intelligence officer with classified data and documents.
Prosecution argued that many of such documents have been directly delivered to the then president Mohammad Morsi.
