The Pan-African Parliament and Arab Parliament will hold a joint session on Monday in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh.
Under the rubric of "popular Afro-Arab solidarity and the role of parliaments", the joint session will be held at an initiative by the Arab Parliament and in coordination with both the Pan-African Parliament and the Egyptian House of Representatives.
In its statement on Wednesday, the Arab Parliament said this session is meant to highlight the role that should be played by the Arab and Pan-African parliaments to activate Afro-Arab cooperation based on the strategic partnership, which was established during the first Arab-African summit in Cairo in 1977.
The recommendations and results of the upcoming session will be vital for boosting the Afro-Arab strategic partnership. The joint session is also expected to provide a mechanism to implement and follow up the outcome of successive African and Arab summits, the statement added.
The session will be followed by a meeting of the two parliaments' bureaus to review what has been achieved of the outcome of the third session of the African-Arab summit, in addition to the 2010-2016 development plan, it said.
The outcome of the meeting will be referred to the Afro-Arab summit, due to be held in Malabo in November.
