US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford made an unannounced visit for talks with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar, "Daily Sabah" newspaper reported Monday.
The two generals discussed the ongoing fight against Daesh in Iraq's Mosul and the latest situation in Syria's Raqqa in Ankara along with a host of other regional developments.
The U.S. regards the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Syrian affiliate the Democratic Union Party's (PYD) People's Protection Units (YPG), as an ally in its fight against Daesh, while Turkey considers it a terrorist organization due to its links to the PKK, which has killed over 40,000 citizens in a three-decade insurgency in Turkey.
