The Board of Directors of the UAE Down Syndrome Association has endorsed the country's nomination to host the triennial World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC) 2021 in Dubai.
The event will be organised by Down Syndrome International (DSi), a UK based international charity, comprising membership of individuals and organisations from all over the world, committed to improving the quality of life of people with Down syndrome worldwide and promoting their inherent right to be accepted and included as valued and equal members of their communities.
The board was restructured following the resignation of Sonia Ahmed Al Hashimi, the board member and chairwoman of the association. Eid Mohammed Hareb was elected as the board chairman to replace Al Hashimi.
After the new board's meeting, Hareb commended the UAE's achievements in terms of services and laws that support people with disabilities and Down syndrome, thanks to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and instructions of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai a city friendly to people with disabilities in the light of efforts of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
