Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has met with speaker of the Libyan parliament Ageila Saleh on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
The meeting took up the national dialogue in Libya and obstacles facing the formation of a consensus government in the Arab country, said Egypt's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid Monday.
They discussed steps that all Libyan parties should take to reach a final agreement to end the conflict in Libya, form an internationally-supported government and fight terrorism, Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry made it clear that Libya's stability and safety are integral to Egypt's own, the spokesman further said.
He stressed the need for all parties to put Libya's best interests first, Abu Zeid added.
The Egyptian top diplomat also pressed for quickly forming a national consensus government in Libya, he said.
Saleh, for his part, told Shoukry that the Libyan parliament is committed to engaging in the dialogue once again.
It is important to point out though that the other party was the one to reject initialing the agreement in July, the speaker of the Libyan parliament noted.
Saleh said that Egypt is a major regional party that supports Libya and its legitimate demands at the regional and international levels.
