PM meets president of Jordan Engineers Association

Prime Minister Hani Al Mulki stressed the importance of technical training for new engineers to enable them to enter the local and foreign markets and keep pace with development in this sector.

The prime minister made the remarks as he met with President of the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) Majed Al Tabaa in the presence of Minister of Municipal Affairs Walid Al Masri, State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani and Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halasah.

Al Mulki said the government was ready to establish a true partnership with the JEA through the Development and Employment Fund and training centers and institutes in order to establish programs to train and qualify new graduates in the engineering field and provide tem with practical experience and skills.

He also voiced the government’s readiness to support the implementation of training projects for the new engineers as this would help them to enter the labour market.

The prime minister pointed to a by-law that makes it mandatory for contractors implementing government projects to hire Jordanian workers in all governorates with the aim of developing these governorates and reduce employment.

President of the JEA reviewed major challenges facing the association including the need to amend the pension fund system.

The said the number of engineers in Jordan currently stands at 142,000, while the number of engineering students at 62,000.
