The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) delegation held a meeting with Chief of the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Vladlen Stefanov.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the delegation’s visit to Geneva to take part in the 27th session of the Universal Periodic Review. NIHR President and Head of the delegation Said bin Mohammed Al Fihani presented a briefing on the royal decree to form members of the Board of Commissioners and the outcome of the elections which took place in the board’s procedural meeting. Subsequently, the institution’s President and Vice President were elected for a four-year term and amendments were made to the foundation law which were compatible with remarks of the relevant Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).
Al Fihani also stressed the importance of training programmes provided by OHCHR’s national institutions office to the Board of Commissioners members and the Secretariat General staff.
Vladlen Stefanov congratulated NIHR President and Vice President on their election and members of the Board of Commissioners on their appointment. He stressed that the goal of the office is to provide support to the national institutions in order to carry out the recommendations of SCA
