His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum at the Endurance Village of the Windsor Great Park.
The meeting was held on the occasion of HM King Hamad and HM Queen Elizabeth’s attendance of the international Royal Windsor Horse Show.
HM the King welcomed HM Queen Elizabeth II, and expressed thanks and appreciation to her for inviting him to attend the annual show, pointing out to the two kingdoms’ rich heritage and cultures.
HM the King exchanged cordial talks with HM Queen Elizabeth II and Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Bahrain's outstanding relations with the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, hailing them as long-standing ties based on mutual respect and coordination at all levels.
Talks also focused on the importance of promoting and spreading such a deep-rooted sport locally and globally.
HM King Hamad also met the Duke of York, HRH Prince Andrew, former UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, Lord Astor, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sir Alan Duncan, and Commander Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, General Paul Nanson.
HM the King reviewed with them the long-standing and friendly Bahraini-UK relations and their steady progress in various fields.
HM King Hamad was also conferred a book by Rupert Goodman marking 200 years of relations between the two kingdoms.
HM the King expressed thanks and appreciation to Goodman for the valuable book.
HM the King and HM Queen Elizabeth II watched part of the International Endurance Race, held at the Windsor Great Park over 120 kms with the participation of HM the King’s Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Captain of the Royal Endurance Team, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, alongside a number of jockeys from the UAE, as well as from GCC and European countries.
Then, HM the King bade farewell to HM Queen Elizabeth.
Earlier, HM the King was welcomed at the Royal Windsor Racecourse by the Royal Endurance Team Captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and senior organisers of the race.
Shaikh Nasser presented a briefing on the stages and distance of the race as well as the number of participating horse riders.
HM King Hamad lauded the tremendous efforts exerted by HH Shaikh Nasser to promote the popular equestrian sport.
HM the King praised the role played by the Royal Endurance Team in promoting the sport, and hailed its keenness on participating in various regional, Arab and international competitions and championships.
HM the King hailed the landmark results and championships achieved by Bahraini riders, which, he said, has consolidated the kingdom's position in such a sport in all the international gatherings, noting that participation in such world competitions reflects the advanced level of the endurance sport in Bahrain, and proves Bahraini riders’ determination to raise the kingdom’s status at various sporting events.
HM the King emphasised the paramount importance accorded by Bahrain to the Royal Windsor Horse Show and its keenness to contribute to its success by effectively participating in its various contests.
HM King Hamad asserted that participation in such international competitions reflects the developed level of the endurance sport in Bahrain as well as the kingdom’s progress in various economic, trade, cultural and sport fields.
