Assistant Foreign Minister for Neighboring Countries Affairs Osama el Magdoub met with visiting Norwegian special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan Jens-Petter Kjemprud on Thursday.
The meeting took up the situation in Sudan and South Sudan as Norway is one of the Troika states (including also the US and UK) that had sponsored the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
The meeting addressed the adverse effect of the sanctions on Sudan's economic situation, raising the public debt to $50 billion.
The Egyptian official reiterated Egypt's rejection of imposing excessive sanctions.
As for the Sudanese national dialogue, Magdoub said Egypt had supported regional and international efforts to sponsor the ongoing negotiation rounds between the government, opposition and rebels to resolve Sudan's problems.
He added that the Egyptian leadership seeks to promote ties with Sudan, pointing out to raising the level of the high Egyptian-Sudanese committee from ministerial to presidential.
