Egypt’s Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam said extremism is not a face of Islam but a distortion of one of the greatest religions in the world.
During a meeting with a delegation of the German Bundestag, led by MP Alexander Radwan, the mufti said Egypt is keen on being open to the world and extends its hand for cooperation to achieve world peace.
The mufti also highlighted Dar al Ifta’s experience in fighting extremism through the establishment of an observatory against Takfirist and extremist fatwas and a training center on handling those fatwas and launching a Facebook page “Daesh under the Microscope” to rectify misconceptions spread by terror organizations.
More than 1,000 fatwas have been translated to German, English and French, most of them to confute extremist allegations and definitions, he said.
The German lawmaker extended an open invitation to the mufti to visit the Bundestag and deliver a lecture on the true teachings of Islam.
