Ambassadors of the Group of 18 supporting the GCC initiative on Yemen held Tuesday a meeting with Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the GCC's General Secretariat in Riyadh. At the outset of the meeting, the UN Envoy expressed his gratitude for the support he received from GCC member nations and other countries supporting the GCC initiative on Yemen. He expressed his hope that their support to his efforts continue as the UN looks to reach a political resolution to the Yemeni crisis.
Ahmed updated the ambassadors with the latest developments in Yemen and the outcomes of consultations that took place in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He also updated the ambassadors with his plans to achieve peace in Yemen in accordance to the GCC initiative, outcomes of the Yemeni national dialogue and UN Security Council resolution 2216.
