Sales of vinyl records in Britain are at their highest level for more than a decade, doubling in the past year thanks in part to the new Daft Punk album, an industry body said Thursday. Almost 550,000 LPs have been sold so far in 2013, the highest number in any full year since 2003, according to the BPI, which represents the British record industry. If the trend continues to December, sales could reach more than 700,000, the highest annual total since 2001. After 100 percent year-on-year growth, vinyl now accounts for 0.8 percent of all albums sold in Britain -- up from 0.1 percent in 2007. \"The LP is back in the groove,\" said Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI and the Brit Awards. \"We\'re witnessing a renaissance for records -? they\'re no longer retromania and are becoming the format of choice for more and more music fans.\" The top-selling LP of the year is \"Random Access Memories\", the new album from French electronic dance music duo Daft Punk, which includes the 70s-inspired hit \"Get Lucky\". David Bowie -- who released his first single in a decade in January -- Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire are all putting out music on vinyl this year.
