The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included the names of four Iranian figures in its new list of luminaries. “A sum of 4 Iranian personalities have been put in UNESCO’s list of luminaries as important persons,” Secretary of UNESCO National Commission Mohammad Reza Saeeedabadi told reporters in the Southern city of Bushehr on Sunday. He mentioned that Mir Seyed Ali Hamedani, Abdolqader Maraghei, Najmeddin Kobra and Fakhreddin Araqi have been listed by UNESCO as important personalities. “These people are the figures who meet the UNESCO’s criteria and have been introduced for a two-year period as the organization’s luminaries,” he said. He noted that a sum of 30 international figures were nominated at the UNESCO meeting to be included in the list. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). UNESCO has 196 Member States and eight Associate Members. UNESCO's purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom proclaimed in the UN Charter.
