A UAE newspaper has said that the country has a long-standing commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage, not just our own, but that of other countries around the world.
"Cultural heritage is about more than just art. It is about human progress and civilisation that pushes people together at a time when the world is increasingly being pulled apart by evil forces and meddling hands," said The National in an editorial on Thursday.
As the paper reported yesterday, the restoration work of the Imperial Theatre at the Chateau de Fontainebleau in France has entered its final stages. The work on a 16th-century palace is partly sponsored by the UAE.
"Such initiatives provide further evidence that the country is a critical counterweight to the forces of chaos that are sweeping the region. Such moves also embody the constructive dialogue between France and the UAE and should be celebrated along with the Louvre in Abu Dhabi and Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi," concluded the Abu Dhabi-based daily.
