The emirate of Sharjah is preparing to open the regional office of the International Organisation of Folk Art, IOV, in the Middle East and North Africa region, as a new building is being built and equipped to manage the organisation's branches in 21 countries 18 of which are in Arab nations.
The nomination of the emirate of Sharjah to host the regional office came during the meeting of the Executive Council of the IOV, held last March in Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The nomination came in recognition of the culture and heritage of Sharjah and the leading role played by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in promoting cultural activities and supporting research in the field of folk culture.
Ali Abdullah Khalifa, President of the IOV, received Dr. Abdu Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and Atiq Al Qubaisi, Administrative Assistant for Cultural Activities at the Institute, at the temporary headquarters of the organisation in Manama, where he handed over the letter of agreement from the Ruler of Sharjah for the opening of the IOV office in Sharjah.
