Remote Abu Dhabi, presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, TCA Abu Dhabi, returns with new dates in 2016 due to popular demand. Remote Abu Dhabi is the most recent in a series of semi-scripted participatory art performances designed by German art collective, Rimini Protokoll, who have created a site-specific edition of their ongoing international initiative for the city of Abu Dhabi.
It was presented at the seventh edition of Abu Dhabi Art, held from 18th – 21st November 2015, as part of curated performing arts series Durub Al Tawaya III, and after a series of fully-booked performances, will now return throughout January, February and March 2016.
Abu Dhabi Art is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and organised by TCA Abu Dhabi.
"This performative experience will turn Abu Dhabi itself into an artwork," says Michelle Farrell, Abu Dhabi Art Programmes Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority. "The concept explores human relationships with others, with technology and with the built environment around us, in a highly original form that has appeared in ever-evolving iterations in cities around the world and connects with Abu Dhabi's vision of developing a rich cultural and creative ecosystem."
In each two hour performance of Remote Abu Dhabi, a group of up to 50 participants will be guided around the city of Abu Dhabi by a computer-generated voice that speaks through headphones, in English or Arabic. Participants will experience the city as never before as they walk through the carefully curated sequence of familiar and unexpected locations.
