Conducted by Ahmed al-Saedi, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will light up the Opera House at Katara Cultural Village on June 25 in the first of three programmes displaying individual orchestra musicians’ virtuosity. Presenting works by Antonio Vivaldi, JC Bach and Haydn, Philharmonic Showcase soloists will be Andras Chlebovics and Attila Szucs on the horn, Andrea Loetscher on piccolo and Matyas Veer on bass trombone. The evening’s programme includes Symphony in D Major by Johann Christian Bach, who ironically was more famous during his lifetime than his father, Johann Sebastian Bach. Italian legend Antonio Vivaldi is always a favourite amongst Doha’s music lovers, and the Philharmonic will perform his Concerto in C Major for piccolo. The programme ends with Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Russian and Lludmilla. Glinka has been described as the father of Russian music. This work takes the listener through numerous influences on his homeland’s music–Finnish, Tartar, Persian and Russian folk traditions. The next performance of the Qatar Philharmonic will be on July 2 at the Opera House at Katara Cultural Village at 7.30pm. The orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s stunning 1812 Overture, conducted by music director Nader Abassi.
