Rehabilitation of the Sahara museum in Ouargla was completed after several years of works.
This operation, worth DZD 50 million from the fund for development of the southern regions, included the rehabilitation of the facades of the museum, coating them with the local gypsum, as well as the renovation of some parts of this ancient museum, said the province's director of culture, Mokhtar Kermida.
The works included the roof and the floor covering with local materials, while respecting the Sahara architectural style, in addition to the rehabilitation of its connection to drinking water and sanitation, and refurbishment of the indoor and outdoor lighting, according to the same official.
The rehabilitation works were entrusted to companies specializing in artisanal construction, under the monitoring of a qualified architect mandated by the Ministry of Culture, in order to respect the authentic architectural style of the building, constructed in 1938.
The building is characterized by an ancient architectural style, combining both Islamic, African and European styles.
