Social Development Minister Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Balooshi opened yesterday the interactive Exhibition –"Energy" at the second floor of the Bahrain Science Centre (BSC) in Isa Town.
The 130-square-metre hall includes the 23 interactive devices and a room for scientific discussions.
The Minister said the hall was designed and equipped according to the latest international standards in order to allow visitors to discover various alternative sources of energy, including the tidal, solar, wind, geothermal, waves, hydro, electricity and hydrogen power.
The discussions corner will allow visitors to discuss the best alternative source of energy that should be used by the kingdom to reduce dependence on oil and gas.
There are some interactive displays to teach visitors various forms of energy, such as electric power, kinetic energy and chemical energy and potential energy, and other devices to show visitors how electric power is generated, transmitted, stored and used.
Young visitors can also identify the boiling heat pumps or heat and friction.
Visitors can also compare their carbon footprints to those of other people. A carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide emitted due to a person's daily activities.
They may also ride bikes to see the amount of energy required to boil water, light a lamp, mix food or dry their hair.
The "Island" show also informs visitors about how to generate enough electricity from various sources to a country such as the island of Bahrain.
The hall also features an exhibition that encourages visitors to generate kinetic energy by moving a handle.
The new hall will be open to the public as from today, Friday, September 5, 2014.
