The Commerce and Industry Ministry's Intellectual Property Committee should be turned into an independent authority as part of the nation's quest for international commercial and financial recognition, said a Kuwaiti official on Saturday.
Head of the Kuwaiti society for the protection of intellectual property Sheikh Salman Al-Dawood Al-Sabah told KUNA that transforming the committee into an independent authority will attract foreign investors, which will see the step as a legal procedure that will ensure and protect their interests.
The ongoing shift in laws governing intellectual property protection requires such change within the nature of the committee; therefore, the transformation will be beneficial for Kuwait's commercial and financial aspirations, said the official.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Madaj announced on December 6 establishment of the committee as a measure to better protect intellectual property.
