Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Sunday the results of the anti-Fascist struggle against evil and oppression must not be forgotten.
He said at a ceremony marking Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, held in the Brezovica forest, near the central Croatian city of Sisak where the first Croatian anti-Fascist guerrilla unit was founded 73 years ago, that forming the first Sisak partisan unit was a brave and far-sighted decision.
Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, who also attended the event, said 73 years ago there were young men here and many of them had not returned, adding the day was important because Croatia had shown it was capable of fighting evil.
The event also were attended by Croatian Deputy Parliament Speaker Dragica Zgrebec, several ministers and representatives of the the Anti-Fascist Fighters' Association.
Croatia marks the Anti-Fascist Struggle Day on June 22 in memory of the formation of the first armed anti-Fascist unit in Croatia, the 1st Sisak Partisan Detachment, formed in Brezovica forest near Sisak on June 22, 1941.
