Chinese and foreign experts will discuss the future development of China's ancient towns at an upcoming conference in southwest China.
The conference, to be held in the ancient town of Qingyan in Guizhou Province, will draw more than 300 experts to participate in talks about protection, tourism development and brand-building for China's historic towns, the organizer said Tuesday.
During the conference, slated for Dec. 12 to 14, a series of activities, including exhibitions and a music festival, will be held.
There are 252 famous historic towns on China's list, according to official figures.
"Historic towns and villages are an important part of China's historic and cultural heritage, and it is necessary to protect them," Fu Shuang, an official with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said at a forum in May.
