Arabian Gulf identity needs to be sustained through deep-seating the concept of nationalism, Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) Ali Al-Youha said Monday.
The cultural activities agenda for 2015-2016 is the key issue to be discussed today, said Al-Youha before a meeting for GCC culture undersecretaries.
This meeting comes in preparation for the 20th meeting of the GCC ministers of culture, to be hosted by Kuwait on October 16.
Other issues to be discussed in the preparatory meeting would include GCC cultural cooperation with international entities such as the ASEAN and the EU, he pointed out.
However, the ministerial meeting, to be sponsored by Minister of Information, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and the council chairman, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, would address common projects and issues, outlined in the common strategy, approved during the 29th summit, hosted by Oman in 2008.
The ministers will discuss means of implementing programs within this strategy and pursuing inter-GCC cooperation for bolstering the distinctive Gulf identity, preserving the Arabic language and the Islamic cultural heritage.
