A host of Kuwaiti prominent figures were honored by the 8th Arab Culture and Tourism Festival, which ended on Saturday, in recognition of their contribution each in his or her field of specialty.
They honored figures include former information minister Sami Al-Nisf, professor of political sciences Haila Al-Makimi, Chairman of Kuwait Public Relations Association Jamal Al-Nasrallah, lawyer and author Mohammad Al-Sabti and member of Kuwait Electronic Prize panel, engineer Manar Al-Hashash.
Al-Makimi lauded the initiative by the Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) of the Arab League to honor her as an Arab leading woman figure with a high sense of responsibility.
Supporting woman is basic in societies working hard to develop themselves, the assistant undersecretary at Kuwait's Ministry of Information, told KUNA. Woman is the backbone of an Arab family, she added.
Al-Makimi commended the event which "works to enhance Arab ties through bringing together leading figures every now and then, offering a chance to discuss Arab issues and concerns, amid unprecedented changes in the region.
In a similar statement to KUNA, Chairman of Kuwait Public Relations Association Jamal Al-Nasrallah expressed pride for being honored by the Arab event.
Al-Nasrallah referred to a proposal to establish a federation for the Arab public relations associations, to be based in Kuwait, and affiliated to the Arab League.
For his part, Al-Sabti underscored Egypt's role on the Arab political, social and literary levels, saying the honoring "means a lot for intellectuals, especially when it comes from the civil society." This is a cultural event aiming to consolidate cooperation and integration among the Arab countries, head of the Festival organizing committee Hanan Nasr told KUNA.
The ten-day event included a cultural tour amidst the ancient monuments of Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt and a conference on the Arab woman.
