The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) in Abu Dhabi has received approximately 100,000 fasters since the beginning of the month of Ramadan since Sunday, at the tents located in the mosque grounds. The visits came as part of a ‘Providing Iftar to a Faster’ project, which is carried out annually in the honour of late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan throughout the month, the centre said in a statement on Monday.A number of meals are offered daily and during the month of Ramadan, ranging between 16,000 and 20,000 Iftar meals in 14 air-conditioned tents.A total of 15,000 worshippers visited the mosque during the first Friday prayer in Ramadan. More than 300 people are responsible for serving the fasters and handling all aspects of the operations including preparation, follow-up and supervision. The centre has also coordinated with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) for all emergency services and for ensuring that vehicles can enter and exit the area without any difficulties. The ‘Providing Iftar to a Faster’ project is associated with a group of activities and events organised by the SZGMC throughout the holy month.These include a course for the memorisation and recitation of the Holy Quran for young boys and girls; Taraweeh prayer programme and a number of religious lectures delivered by a number of scholars hosted by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The centre has dedicated places to providing Iftar to women, volunteers and organisers.SZGMC is coordinating with the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi to provide a group of public transport buses to facilitate the arrival of fasters to the mosque on a daily basis.
