MIDF Research expects Bank Negara Malaysia to retain the overnight policy rate (OPR) at 3.00 per cent until end of this year, reasoning that despite the improving economic and financial data, there was still uncertainty in the global economic front. In a research note Monday, it said the risk of inflation was still lingering, and hence they expect the central bank to continue to maintain the accommodative monetary policy which will support domestic demand. \"We expect inflation to be well contained, with possibilities of some level of easing in the coming months. \"As such, we are the of the view that there is no compelling reason for a rate cut prospects,\" the research firm said. MIDF also expects Bank Negara to be a laggard among its Asean peers in terms of its monetary policy action.
