Kuwait Banking Association on Friday denied reports that banks' ATMs (automated teller machines) will be temporarily switched off when the new banknotes are put in circulation on Sunday.
The association said in a statement that there would be no such stoppage at launch of the new banknotes on Sunday or the following days, affirming the local banks' readiness to meet citizens' banking needs and serving them as usual.
Kuwait will witness, on Sunday, issuance of the sixth edition of the national currency in the domestic market, replacing the currently-used bills.
On May 19, the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) announced the new sixth issuance of Kuwaiti banknotes as of June 29. The usage of the fifth issuance banknotes shall run in parallel with the new banknotes until withdrawal of current banknotes is completed.
