Second-tier banks operating in Albania and state authorities here should establish closer cooperation with the aim of further enhancing banking activity safety, Albania's central bank governor Gent Sejko told reporters on Thursday.
According to Sejko, better dialogue between banks and authorities would help guarantee the normal functioning of the banking and financial system.
While talking to media, he said the recent armed robberies of banks should be stopped as they harmed the image of the banking sector, which he deemed crucial to the country's economic development and stability.
Special attention must be paid to financial education and public awareness, as the influence of banks on both the financial system and the economy was essential, Sejko told reporters.
On the other hand, he also commended the authorities for solving the case of banks monetary values heist.
A day before, in a meeting between the Bank of Albania and the Albanian Association of Banks, it was assured that they would continue to have a maximum collaboration with the central and local authorities for a healthier banking sector, in support of economic development.
