Just some years ago, artificial intelligence was the sort of thing straight out of sci-fi movies. Today, it's practically everywhere - and Huawei is making sure that it is able to offer the future today.
"As we enter the age of intelligence, AI is no longer a virtual concept, but something that intertwines with our daily life," David Wang, country head for the UAE, Oman, Bahrain and Afghanistan at Huawei Consumer Business Group, told Khaleej Times.
"AI can enhance user experience, provide valuable services and improve product performance."
Wang was responding to questions related to the launch of the company's latest flagship, the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, which were unveiled in Munich, Germany. Both devices have the Kirin 970, the world's first AI processor with a dedicated neural processing unit to support a new generation of 'intelligent' smartphones, plus the latest Leica dual-lens cameras, among other new features.
Huawei's devices have attracted a following, thanks to large displays and prices lower than the titans of the sector, Samsung and Apple. It also helps that preferences, especially in the Middle East, are shifting.
In the UAE, Wang says, the 25-34 age group exceeds 2.5 million, roughly representing about 27 per cent of the population. The perception of Arab millennials when it comes to luxury is changing rapidly, much different from previous generations. "For them, it's more about the experience than the brand or material components of the product," he added.
