Michael Jackson's music video for "Thriller" will be re-released in 3D.
Director John Landis intends to release the 14-minute video on Blu-ray and in theaters in 2015. Landis filed a lawsuit for 50 percent of the net profits of the video before Jackson's death, and recently settled with the late singer's estate.
"That lawsuit went on for so many years, [but] we settle and they paid me finally," the director told the New York Daily News. "And so, actually there is something happening with 'Thriller.' It is going to reappear in a highly polished and three-dimensional way that is very exciting on the big screen."
A source close to the Jackson family told the publication Landis has secretly been working on the project for months.
"The iconic video has never been released on Blu-ray or seen in cinemas and 3D, and that was a vision Michael had," the insider shared. "In fact, his This is It London show was meant to feature a segment which included a 3D performance."
Jackson hired Landis to direct the "Thriller" music video after seeing his film An American Werewolf in London. The director has helmed such movies as Animal House, The Blues Brothers and Into the Night, and most recently released Burke and Hare in 2010.
