Microsoft's Windows 8.1 Update 1, expected to ship in March, may not arrive until April, sources told ZDNet. Microsoft is reportedly considering using a traditional Patch Tuesday in April to push out the update, dubbed "Spring," which means it would be available to Windows users on April 8, not March 11, ZDNet reported Wednesday. The main features of the update are expected to make Windows 8.1 more comfortable for users who prefer to use a mouse and keyboard, rather than a touchscreen, to navigate around the operating system. Leaked early versions of Windows 8.1 Update 1 have been found to include contextual menus for mouse and keyboard users in the Start Screen, a new power button in plain sight and the option to close apps by simply clicking a close button in the top-right corner of each app. Other features are predicted to include the ability to pin Metro apps on the desktop task bar, and the ability to bypass Start screen and boot straight into the desktop. If it releases in April that would be after Microsoft's San Francisco-based developers' conference, Microsoft Build.
