The identity of a skeleton found in northern Greece in an ancient tomb dating from the time of Alexander the Great might never be known, Greek archaeologists said Saturday, according to dpa.
"We may never know who it is," Culture Ministry General Secretary
Lina Mendoni said. "... We will be able to carry out tests that will
determine whether the skeletal remains were male or female, how old
the person was and what they ate, but we may never know the true
identity of the occupant of the tomb."
Officials have said the tomb most likely belongs to a distinguished
male public figure or a general, prompting excited speculation that
it might house the remains of Alexander the Great, whose final
resting place remains a mystery.
