An agreement was signed Saturday in Oran between the Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), on the sidelines of the African Conference on Green Economy. ASAL’s Director Azzeddine Ouseddik and UNITAR’s Director Fegan Wyles signed this agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal. This agreement will allow, according to Oussedik, using scientific and technological means to exploit satellite photographs and geographical information as part of the protection of the environment. This agreement will allow training the Algerian specialists, considering this institute’s experience in the fields of the digital processing of satellite photographs and their exploitation for the prevention against natural disasters. It also pertains to the exchange of experiences with this institute as part of the exploitation of satellites. Algeria possesses two satellites as well as a national space programme which enable it to mount other satellites specialized in several fields. For her part, Fegan Wyles highlighted the importance of this agreement in terms of training and experience exchange.
